Vet Care in the Future Looks Bright!!
The future of veterinary care is in good hands!!! I guess that kind of sounds like I am retiring after 38 years in practice…….No such luck for our clients or staff. I am still going strong and just returned from presenting a short course on Low Level Laser Therapy to the third- and fourth-year students at Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. I will be presenting this course at several other veterinary schools around the country as part of an effort to bring these “soon to graduate veterinarians” up to speed on this rapidly growing technology. At this point none of the vet schools in the US offer a course on the science and application of light therapy. Yet approximately ten percent of all practices in the US have a laser unit with likelihood that many other practices will follow suit soon. It is critical that these practices as well as vet students understand how this equipment works to maximize its effectiveness. Since none of the veterinary schools in the US offer a course, I have been approached to teach a course around the country as veterinary students feel it is important to have this knowledge when applying for positions.
I found the students at Washington State very bright, eager to learn and understand the science. It is always refreshing to work with veterinary students as they have an excitement and enthusiasm about any treatment that will provide superior care for their patients. I’m sure the travel will, at times, be very tiring but when I witness the energy of these students it certainly can be rejuvenating.
