Update on the World of Pet Laser Therapy
As many of you know, Laser Therapy (now called Photobiomodulation) is one of the most used therapies in our hospital. We have been involved in the use of this treatment early on and continue to research new diseases that respond to the application of light. Recently, while presenting a course on Light Therapy to a group of veterinary students at the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine, it was obvious that as the veterinary future unfolds more and more diseases will be treated with LEDs and Lasers. At the Brockton Animal Hospital, Pet Laser Therapy in the Boston area has reached a level of utilization where it seems as if nearly every disease, surgical procedure or orthopedic injury can benefit from Laser Therapy. With that in mind and to address the many inquiries we receive regarding Pet Laser Therapy from the Boston area, it seems reasonable to list the most common diseases that we treat with Photobiomodulation. The following is by no means a complete list but rather a group of the more commonly treated conditions, many of which previously were not considered to be targets of light therapy. But as our experience grows we realize that even when Light Therapy is not the primary means of treatment, it is an Integrative or adjunct therapy that can be used to enhance appetite, improve mood, decrease pain and promote wellness. Recently I was asked to participate in the World Association of Laser Therapy bi-annual conference to be held next October in France (lucky meJ). I can only imagine what new thresholds will be crossed as I will have the privilege to hear presentations from some of the most respected names in the field of Photobiomodulation. Here are many of the common diseases we currently treat with LEDs and Lasers:
1. Chronic kidney disease (shown to significantly improve quality of life and possibly improve longevity)
2. Arthritis of knees, elbows, shoulders and many other joints. (often used as the only treatment necessary to control pain)
3. Accelerate healing of wounds and broken bones
4. To control pain that results from dental procedures
5. Acute injuries such as strains, sprains, and bruises. Including incomplete ACL tear
6. Osteoarthritis of the spine and degenerative disc disease including bulging, collapsed or herniated discs.
7. Complicated corneal ulcers and inflammatory eye conditions
8. Acute or chronic liver disease
9. To accelerate recovery from surgical procedures including Cruciate Ligament Injuries
10. Reduce the symptoms of chronic idiopathic (interstitial) cystitis or Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease.
Because of our involvement and longstanding dedication to the science of Light Therapy, we are committed to improving the quality of life across the globe. We have dedicated a significant part of our careers to this science. If you have any questions regarding the efficacy of this treatment for any condition, please feel free to contact us. This offer is not just limited to our clients.
